No Tigers In The Jungle

Synopsis

More than a thousand years before Alexander the Great and five hundred years before the siege of Troy, Amrita and Isha live in a seemingly idyllic jungle clearing. No Tigers in the Jungle opens in 1700 B.C.E. in the Indo-Persian empire when Hindus and Persians were united as one country.

A slave auction brings the two of them together—Amrita on the auction block for the fourth time and Isha in need of help raising his young sons without a mother. What began as a relationship between a slave and her master evolves into a search for redemption from a dark and violent past which haunts each of them.

No Tigers in the Jungle is the third novel in the Parallax Series by Karin Clemens. A parallax is defined as the same object seen from two separate points of view. The style was inspired by Mark Twain’s Diary of Adam and Eve and his technique of telling one story from two points of view—his and hers. In No Tigers in the Jungle, the story alternates between the voice of the slave woman, Amrita, and the voice of her Hindu owner, Isha, whose name in Sanskrit means lord or master.

The Priestess And The Shepherd King

A Parallax Seńes Book

What do you do when the religion you have vowed to uphold is corrupted and defiled?

The Priestess
The Priestess

Synopsis

Young Inanna, the Sumerian High Priestess, is the newly ordained goddess of her people and the answer to their prayers. Beautiful, intelligent and determined, Inanna must be all these things to face an unrelenting drought, famine and unscrupulous temple priestesses.

Crops are failing, and the corrupt powers in the temple have stolen or squandered resources that could have eased the crisis. Generations of religious traditions and beliefs are disintegrating into anarchy and the collapse of a civilization. A starving populace demands that Inanna must step into her destiny and marry a Shepherd King so that the gods will relent and allow the rains to return.

The promiscuous nephew to the King of Uruk accepts her offer to become Dumuzi, the Shepherd King, in the hieros gamos or sacred marriage ritual. He imagines living with priestesses in the House of Heaven will be heaven indeed. Soon disillusioned by life behind temple walls, Dumuzi is confronted by Uruk’s fearsome general who demands to know if he will rise to his role as the Shepherd King or abandon Inanna, his Queen of the Heavens.

The Priestess and the Shepherd King is the second novel in the Parallax Series by Karin Clemens. A parallax is defined as the effect of an object being seen from two separate points of view. The Parallax Series of novels and the storytelling form itself were inspired by Mark Twain’s technique of telling one story from two points of view—his and hers. In The Priestess and the Shepherd King, the story is told in the distinct voices of both Inanna and Dumuzi.

My Sun And Moon

A Parallax Seńes Book

It was the chase. It was the woman. It was the hunt. It was survival.

My Son And Moon
My Son And Moon

Synopsis

Lalena was the captivating daughter of the Great One, a warrior venerated by two clans. Her mother, the widow of the Great One, raised their daughter alone in a hilltop cave above the villages. There, secluded from her parents’ clans, Lalena learned mysticism, the healing arts and the advanced skills of both her mother and father. As the daughter of the Great One, Lalena was strong and independent. To her clansmen, however, she was strange and different.

Lendo grew up hearing bonfire stories of how the Great One had fended off a war party to protect their women and children. Ever since childhood when the clan leader had looked down at him, smiled and tousled his hair, Lendo’s sole ambition was to succeed the Great One. Yet greatness requires sacrifice, and Lendo had yet to be tested.

My Sun and Moon invites readers to step into the Old Stone Age when the marriage ritual was an act of male domination and women could be stoned by a clan for defying age-old customs. New ideas and strange ways marked a person as odd and an outcast. Lalena and Lendo must steer through the strong currents of a rapidly changing culture, struggling to honor clan traditions while compelled to adopt new survival strategies.

My Sun and Moon is set in an age when Neanderthals and modern man battled for supremacy. An important archaeological site in Israel, Misliya Cave, is known for significant contributions to understanding the coexistence of Neanderthals and modern humans. Excavations of twenty sites in the Middle East confirm that Neanderthals and early humans once lived side-by-side. Now recent genetic studies have shown that non-African modern humans carry 1-2% of Neanderthal DNA.

My Sun and Moon is the first novel in the Parallax Series by Karin Clemens. A parallax is defined as the effect of an object being seen from two separate points of view. The Parallax Series of novels and the storytelling form itself were inspired by Mark Twain’s technique of telling one story from two points of view—his and hers. In My Sun and Moon, the story is told in the distinct voices of both Lalena and Lendo.
